IS CHANNEL M, or a form of it, on the way back? Support is being sought to provide a new model which will produce city TV stations working with a national network called Channel 6. Thus national news will be supplemented by exclusively local stories and shows for several hours a day. Channel M failed spectacularly for Guardian Media Regional Group and contributed to the sale of the MEN to Trinity Mirror and its move to Oldham.

NORTH WEST DEBT worries are rising as people face public sector spending cuts. Nearly 34,000 people were made personally insolvent in England and Wales in the third quarter of 2010, according to official statistics. A further 13,907 were made bankrupt during the quarter. In the North West, 16,569 people became personally insolvent in 2009 and a further 8,689 were declared bankrupt.

FLATS IN STRETFORD have been evacuated after a gas explosion. No-one was injured in the Sunday blast which was confined to one flat. Seven people were moved out of the building. Gas engineers have found and isolated the leak.

CARLOS TEVEZ dominates football gossip after his written transfer request. Rumours over the weekend suggested an improbable move to back to United. This has been denied and City are now stating that they expect him to fulfil his three-year contract. Manager Mancini says he will play in the next game. Further rumours that he’s been offered a new snood for Christmas, as part of a deal to keep him at Eastlands, are unconfirmed.

Out of the window weather forecast:There is nothing unusual about the weather, everybody is still using it as an excuse to scive off work – the valetudinarians.
