AND SO IT GOES ON. The ash ban on flights across North West of England airspace has been extended to 1am tomorrow. With lovely phraseology, air traffic control company Nats have said the volcanic ash cloud over the UK "remained dynamic". All flights to and from airports in Manchester, Liverpool John Lennon and Blackpool remain suspended. Meanwhile questions are now being raised over whether all this has been an overreaction.

ALMOST 8000 PEOPLE took to the streets over Saturday night for Cancer Research UK's event, Shine. They walked the full 26 mile route of a marathon, through the city centre, Rusholme, Old Trafford, the Trafford Centre and back to the city centre.

PEOPLE WANT JOBS WITH THE BEEB. According to an MEN report over 10,000 people have applied for 500 plus available BBC jobs at MediaCity on the Quays. Jobs on offer include journalism, broadcasting, administration, marketing, IT and research. A total of 428 people will be relocating from London to MediaCity. This is 46 per cent of those who were offered the chance to join us in the North – way above anticipated levels. It shows there's a lot of love for Manchester out there.

ROCHDALE were promoted for only the second time in more than ninety years, Wigan came from behind to beat Arsenal and United beat City with a last gasp winner from Paul Scholes in the derby game. It was a tumultuous time for local football this week. Confidential says an special well-done to the Dale.

Out of the window weather forecast: It's a bit dull
