MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY are to charge the maximum fee of £9,000 for some courses from 2012. The former polytechnic will be charging £8,000 for three quarters of their courses, while a fifth, will cost £9,000. Last month the University of Manchester announced their fees would at £9,000, Bolton and Salford universities are yet to announce their fees.
LIBERAL DEMOCRAT COUNCILLOR Martin Eakins reported a man who called him ‘scruffy’ to the police. The ‘offender’, former Councillor Mike Kane, was visited by a police community support officer about the ‘inflammatory remarks’. According to Councillor Eakins, Kane has a history of making inappropriate comments to Lib Dem campaigners. The comments were made at a meeting of Wythenshawe Area Committee.
THE NORTH WEST Ambulance Service is to close or merge half of its ambulance stations. The review is being carried out because of the financial climate and need to cut costs, but bosses insist that they do not plan on cutting jobs and the affect on frontline services will be minimal. Plans for major sites will be released by June.
A MAN has been shot in Irlam o’th’ Height. John Green was shot in the knee, and left with no life threatening injuries. Police are investigating whether the incident is connected to Green’s previous convictions. In 2007 he was jailed for causing death by dangerous driving after crashing while high on cocaine, killing a 12 year old boy, and was convicted of stabbing a man four times while on bail for the crash.
This week in 1888: the Football League was formally created at the Royal Hotel, Manchester in Piccadilly. Of the twelve Midland and Northern founding members none were from Manchester.
