FUNERALS IN BOLTON could be broadcast on the internet and viewed via a live video stream. To access the page one would have to acquire a password, and the funeral would be online for up to seven days after the service. Bolton council’s Akhtar Zaman said, “Times have changed and we have been asked why we don’t offer services like webcasting... we would like the views of the public to help us understand what is important to them.”
MANCHESTER CITY’S CARLOS TEVEZ was caught speeding in his £140,000 Bentley and now faces court. Tevez allegedly failed to disclose who was driving the Bentley Continental when it was flashed. The car was snapped on the A56 Chester Road, Stretford, travelling 38mph – 8mph over the speed limit. 27-year-old Tevez has pleaded not guilty, and faces Oldham magistrates’ court on 14 September.
THE ROOF OF A ‘CURRY MILE’ RESTAURANT collapsed in a major fire. Greater Manchester’s Fire safety team avoided a major tragedy, despite working on another job when the fire started at the Kebabish restaurant. Wilmslow Road was closed for a number of hours, causing hell for motorists.
THE FIRST EVER ‘SLUT WALK’ hosted in Manchester saw hundreds of protesters donning racy attire as part of a global equality campaign. Slut Walks are the response to comments made by a Canadian police officer who advised school-girls not to dress ‘like sluts’ in order to prevent sexual assault. Over 600 women and a handful of men brought traffic on Deansgate to a standstill.
Fact of the Day: This week in 1871 Manchester’s coroner gave evidence to a House of Commons select committee about the use of opiates to drug children to sleep.
