THE MOTHER OF TIA RIGG, the 12-year-old girl who was stabbed and strangled to death last week, has gone missing. Lynne Ahmed, 34, was last seen on Thursday evening at her house in Higher Broughton. Tia's uncle, John Maden, 37, of Dalmain Close, Cheetham Hill, has been charged with her murder. Police say they are "extremely concerned" about Tia’s mother. Ms Ahmed is described as being of mixed race, about 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall, of medium build with long black hair. EDITORIAL NOTE: This came from the Police this afternoon. CRIMINAL MONEY DONATED TO ALLOTMENTS: Thousands of pounds confiscated from criminals have been donated to an allotment project in Greater Manchester. A police payback scheme has raised £5000 for the Norley Hall allotments in Wigan. The allotment was set up to encourage anti-social youngsters to give something back to their community.

CORRIE’S JACK DUCKWORTH QUITS: Actor Bill Tarney, who has played Jack Duckworth on Coronation Street for 30 years, has said he will retire after the show’s 50th anniversary in December. Manchester-born Bill, 69, said: "I have had the most amazing 30 years playing Jack. I am looking forward to seeing what Jack's final story will be."

A WOMAN HAS SET HERSELF ON FIRE, in Stockport town centre. The 26-year-old is believed to have deliberately set herself alight at 2.10am on Thursday 8 April. She was found on the pavement outside the Calvert Court pub and taken to Stepping Hill with burns to her chest and neck. Police are investigating the incident but say there are no suspicious circumstances.
