SALFORD CITY COUNCIL has rejected plans to produce a waste recycling centre on Green Lane, between Monton and Patricroft. The new centre would have recycled up to 100,000 tonnes of rubbish a year whilst generating electricity. Up to 700 locals have opposed the centre since "It's commercial waste, and it is better off in a place like Trafford Park, not 100m where people are trying to bring up children.” Residents believe the waste ‘incinerator’ would incite serious health problems.

TWO BOYS have been arrested after beheading eighteen birds in Wythenshawe Park. They broke in to the park on Saturday between 16.30pm and 10am on Sunday. Hundreds of windows were also broken, fish were poisoned and frogs were speared. Both have been arrested. Up to £10,000 worth of damage occurred.

MANCHESTER PRIDE has announced that this year’s parade theme is ‘Best of British’. The theme will be based around British fashion, sport, music, film and culture. Ideas may include Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, David Beckham, Louis Hamilton, The Beatles, Queen, and Harry Potter and The Royal Family.

THREE PEOPLE have been charged in connection to a plan to blackmail Coleen Rooney. Coleen lost her mobile phone at a music concert last May. Lee Platt, 28, Jennifer Green, 25, and Steven Malcolm, 42, allegedly contacted her with a request for money in favour of its return. Coleen may have to provide evidence should the trio plead not guilty.
