A 92-YEAR-OLD MAN, was flung to the ground by two bullies who then stole £6 from his pocket. The man was returning home in Benchill, after visiting nearby shops. Detective Constable Pete Wiles, of West Didsbury Police said: "We are all appalled by the mentality of these two thugs who think they have the right to attack a 92-year-old man for a bit of loose change. I am sure everyone in the community will condemn their actions.”

I BIKE MCR, a grass roots cycling community in the city, took to the streets yesterday as part of a mass mobile party. The event, organised by Manchester City Council, aimed to encourage young people to take up cycling. Beginning on Oxford Road, the troupe toured the city alongside stunt riders. They said: 'We want people to join with us in our passion. We want to meet others that share our passion. Whatever you do you should ride. Come and ride with us. But whatever you do, please, ride.'

MANCHESTER TO ALGERIA IN POSTCARDS: An artist embarking on a month-long journey tomorrow from Manchester to Algeria will use postcards of where he has been to create an art installation for a special exhibition in 2011. Dr John Perivolaris will journey from Manchester to Annaba in Algeria, via France, for the exhibition which will feature at the Cornerhouse. His iPhone will allow him to communicate with correspondents via his blog, so that online followers can track him and suggest paths for his journey.
