SOCIAL WORKERS HAVE BEEN DISCIPLINED after neglecting to save a 13 month-old baby. Disciplinary action was taken against four workers after 13 month-old Alex Sutherland was found dead in Baguley, Wythenshawe. Three social workers and one member of the authority's social care staff were made the subject of the town hall’s disciplinary investigations.
RIO FERDINAND OPENS NEW POSTNATAL UNIT IN WYTHENSHAWE:Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand and his pregnant wife Rebecca have opened a new postnatal unit at Wythenshawe Hospital. Rebecca ,who is due to give birth to her third child, will return to the hospital where the couples two boys were also born. Rio said he will use the social network site Twitter to announce the birth stating “It's a good platform and a great way to get your story out first.”
CLOSURES FOR GREATER MANCHESTER RECYCLING CENTRES:Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) is considering closing six of its 25 recycling centres in a bid to cut £1m from its budget. Two of the sites facing closure include Leicester Road in Salford and Black Horse Street in Blackrod.
HOSPITAL STAFF LEFT DEVASTATED AFTER JOB RISK BLUNDER: Hospital staff in the Radiology department at Pennine Acute Trust were wrongly told by the junior manager that their jobs could be at risk. Staff were called to briefings and told that one in four jobs were being axed in a bid to save £140m. Staff were later told the information was wrong and and an investigation has now been launched.
