GOVERNMENT WITHDRAWS MEDIACITY BUS SERVICE: Salford council has criticised the government’s decision to scrap plans for a new bus service to MediaCityUK. Greater Manchester was due to receive £1.7m to boost bus services under the former Labour government. However the Conservative and Lib Dem coalition has cancelled funding for the so-called Kickstart project in spending cuts.

HEAR THE NEW CHARLATANS ALBUM TODAY: Indie band The Charlatans will debut their new album, Who We Touch, today at Topman clothing stores in Manchester. Stores involved are Manchester Market Street, Manchester Arndale and Manchester Trafford Centre. The album features 11 new tracks and is set for release on September 6.

NEW RECYCLING SERVICES IN THE CITY: Manchester residents will be able to recycle their food waste at home with the introduction of a new council service this autumn. Residents in 67,000 homes across the city will receive small kitchen caddies and compostable liners to recycle all food waste. These filled liners can then be collected and taken away to be turned into compost that will then be used on farms and allotments across the North West.

ELECTRIC GATE SAFETY PLEA: More safeguards need to be fitted to electric gates according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The call comes after a six-year-old girl was crushed to death after being trapped by an electric gate near her home in Moss Side earlier this year. HSE's David Ashton said firms must “make sure that trapping safety protection devices are correctly set and maintained."

Out of the window weather forecast: Just had a word with the sun. He said his arch enemy ‘rain’ is looking for him so he might have to hide behind some clouds in a bit.
