MANCHESTER RAPE CENTRE SUCCESS STORY: St Mary's Sexual Health Centre has been hailed a model for others in the country. Baroness Vivien Stern has spoken of her five-month review of the centre which included evidence from more than 200 victims and police officers. She said: "Manchester is still the one people would listen to and say, 'if that is what they are doing in Manchester we imagine that is what we ought to be doing here'."

STUDENT ROBBED AT GUNPOINT: A 25-year-old student was confronted by a gunman at his home in Claremont Road, Moss Side on Wednesday. The gunman told the student to put his hands up and go into a bedroom before stealing three laptops and a wallet. Det Con Darren Evans, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We we want to see them brought to justice and have that firearm taken off the streets so it can't frighten or injure anyone else.

SADNESS IN SPINNINGFIELDS OVER WORLD CUP LOSS: Crowds gathered in Hardman Square, Spinningfields to watch the World Cup host announcement on the big screen yesterday. Had England won the bid, Old Trafford and the City of Manchester stadium were expected to host matches.

GANG STEAL ROAD GRIT: A group of ten men robbed salt and grit from a council depot in Oldham after pretending to be sub-contractors. They loaded the salt and grit into three vehicles using a mechanical shovel. Greater Manchester Police are studying camera footage of the raid to try and trace the vehicles.

Out of the window weather forecast: It appears to be raining Tesco bags. There’s a few hanging off tree branches in Spinningfields. Hmmm.
