SEE ENGLAND VS HUNGARY AT WEMBLEY: Greater Manchester Police and Manchester FA are thanking fans in the county for drinking responsibly during the World Cup so far, by offering them the chance to win two free tickets plus travel to watch England play Hungary at Wembley on 11 August. All fans have to do to enter the competition is go on www.gmp.police.uk and guess how many goals will be scored in total throughout the World Cup competition up to and including the final on Sunday 11 July. The competition is only open to people over 17 living in Greater Manchester.
TRAFFORD BECOMES SALFORD: A glossy advert to promote Trafford accidentally shows an image of Salford. Trafford Council bosses, who were trying to promote council jobs in their borough, used a photo of the view from the Salford Quays Millennium footbridge, but showing Salford in the Municipal Journal magazine.
EAR ESCAPE PRISONER FOUND HANGED: A prisoner, who cut off part of his ear off so he could escape from an ambulance, has been found hanged in his cell at HMP Manchester. Michael O'Donnell, 29, was recaptured on 28 May. A prison spokesman said. “He was a category A prisoner at risk of self-harm.”
KERB-CRAWLERS EDUCATED: A three year campaign by police in Bolton served to educate kerb-crawlers about the impact of their crime. More than 500 men were arrested and sent on courses. Police claim the number of women working the streets in Bolton, has now reduced from 140 to 20.
