FIRE AT PICCADILLY STATION: A timber fire in Piccadilly station has forced the closure of platforms 13 and 14 and parts of the station have been evacuated. The fire, which started in railway arches near Fairfield Street is thought to have been deliberately started. Commuters are urged to check the latest situation prior to departing.
MAN ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED STABBING OF 13-YEAR-OLD BOY: A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the stabbing of 13-year-old in Sale. Michael Stevenson's pet Rottweiler was also knifed to death during the incident on 12 February. The teenager is now recovering from his injuries at home.
TWO ARRESTED OVER ASSAULT IN BOLTON: Police were called to a flat in Dean Church Lane, Bolton after a man was seriously injured shortly after 2am. The 32-year-old man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he is currently in the Intensive Support Unit, being treated for serious head injuries. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous body harm and a 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
THOUSANDS OF PROTESTERS TO MARCH FOR SECOND CUTS DEMONSTRATION: At least 2,000 protesters will take to the streets of Manchester for a second demonstration against cuts made by the council. The march will take place in Manchester city centre on March 5 in a bid to protest against the opposed cuts to libraries, leisure services and sure start centres.
