AMIS QUITS MANCHESTER FOR NEW YORK: Literally mogul Martin Amis, 61, is to quit his £80k post as creative writing professor at Manchester University this summer. He plans to move to New York after recently purchasing property there. Amis currently commutes to Manchester every fortnight from his north London home to teaches the MA course.
PAIR ARRESTED IN CHILD EXPLOITATION: Two men aged 34 and 43, have been arrested in Greater Manchester as part of an investigation into child exploitation. The pair were arrested on Thursday in Rochdale after being questioned on suspicion of rape, inciting child prostitution, allowing premises to be used for prostitution and sexual activity with a child. Nine men were previously arrested in December, but later released on bail.
GRAN, 92 TARGETED BY THIEF FOR £30: Edith Brickhill was left beaten and kicked after a thief attacked her as she let her dog out in Moston. The man snatched her money after kicking and punching her in the face. Edith was also targeted in 2009, after answering the door to a man who then stole her handbag. A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
NOEL DONATES DISC: Noel Gallagher has donated a signed platinum disc to a West Didsbury school to help raise funds for a new therapy pool for disabled children. The disc was given to the Oasis guitarist for selling 200,000 copies of ‘Roll with it’. The disc will be auctioned on Saturday in Altrincham and is expected to raise £3,000.
