EX-MAN CITY BOSS DIES: Former Manchester City boss, Malcolm Allison has died at the age of 83. The coach led Manchester City to great success in the late 1960s. A statement on the Manchester City website reads: "Flamboyant, brilliant and larger than life, Malcolm will be sorely missed by everyone at the club."

POLICE TWEET 3,205 CALLS: Greater Manchester Police tweeted 3,205 calls as part of a project to give the public an insight into their daily workload. The force made 341 arrests during their 24-hour Twitter-thon. Around 17,000 people followed the force's Twitter feed and GMP reported that the volume of calls they received in the 24 hours was "about average" and reflected a typical day.

JOE MCELDERRY TO SWITCH LIGHTS ON: Last year’s X-Factor winner, Joe McElderry, along with special guests from Coronation Street, have been announced as the headline acts at Manchester’s Christmas Lights switch-on. The switch-on takes place on Friday 12 November from 6.45pm in Albert Square. The fireworks display will be at 8pm. Councillor Pat Karney said: “To welcome Joe McElderry to the city is just the icing on the cake for us. He’s exceptionally talented.”

BODY SCANNING FOR ALL: From the end of October, all passengers flying out of Manchester Airport will have to pass through body scanners. Since the trial began in October 2009, more than 400,000 passengers have gone through the scanners. Manchester Airport has reported that 95 per cent of travellers prefer the scanners and queuing times have been radically reduced.
