200 JOBS ARE TO BE CUT at The University of Salford as managers look to save £7million. The cuts are primarily in areas of administration. The University said it will look to avoid compulsory redundancies by redeploying staff in new positions, so the actual number of losses will be much lower than 200. The university employs 2,500 staff and has 20,000 students.

MORRISSEY IS TO PLAY GLASTONBURY this year. It is the 51-year-old’s second appearance at the three day festival, which he first played 27 years ago. Morrissey will play the Pyramid Stage ahead of U2 on the festival’s opening night. Tickets for Glastonbury sold out in four hours after they went on sale in October. The festival takes place 24-26 June.

A MURDER INVESTIGATION has been launched after a man was found dying in Devon Street, Farnworth, Bolton. The man, who was in his 40s, had severe head injuries. A passerby found the man this morning. THE ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL in Cheadle Hulme is set to become the second hospital in the country to offer a revolutionary new operation to tackle obesity. In the procedure, surgeons access patients’ stomachs through their mouths, avoiding the need for an incision, and create folds in the patients’ stomachs to reduce capacity. The surgery will cost £7,000 and will only be available to people classified as obese.
