THE LEADER OF MANCHESTER CITY COUNCIL, Sir Richard Leese, has returned to his duties after taking time out for personal reasons. Sir Richard, 58, temporarily stood down in April following what he described as an 'isolated incident' with his step-daughter in which he was arrested. He was re-elected as Labour leader by party members on Thursday night. He said: “It's been an a extremely traumatic time not just for me but my wife and our whole family. Clearly I'm very much chastened but determined to learn from the experience and come out a stronger person."
A MEMBER OF STAFF AT HOUSE OF FRASER on Deansgate has been charged with the attempted murder of a colleague. Adrian Shaw, 20, from Middleton repeatedly stabbed the 39-year-old victim in the menswear department of the department store on Wednesday afternoon. Shaw, is due to appear at Manchester City Magistrates' Court later.
MANCHESTER AIRPORT PARK-AND-RIDE COSTS £19.84- and that's cheap. Consumer watchdog, Which? Car has published the price of seven days' parking at major terminals across the country. The magazine found Manchester's park-and-ride to be the cheapest at £19.84 and Heathrow's business parking to be the most costly at £88.70.
POLICE WORKER CAUGHT ON CCTV SNORTING COCAINE: Lyndsey Dinning, 31, has now resigned from Greater Manchester Police where she was a Scenes of Crime Officer. She was investigated by a covert unit within GMP's Professional Standards Branch following a tip-off. A CCTV device was placed in her office and caught her in the act.
