A TOP GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE officer has resigned after he was caught drink driving by his colleagues. Rochdale based Superintendent Paul Brookes will lose out on a £100,000 pension payout because of his decision to resign after Manchester Magistrates’ Court gave him a £600 and 18-month driving ban. The 56-year-old officer, was pulled over by fellow GMP officers on May 1 who found him three times over the legal limit.

CITY STAR and key defender Micah Richards has been stranded in a holiday resort after contracting swine flu. The 21 year old was struck down by the bug whilst holiday near the Ayia Napa resort in Cyprus and has been told not to fly home until he has a clean bill of health. The footballer said he expects to be ridiculed by his Manchester City team-mates when he goes back to training.

MASKED RAIDERS have targeted the home of Manchester United footballer Federico Macheda. A friend of the 17-year-old Italian striker suffered a minor cut to his head during the robbery. The two men stole cash and jewellery before running out of the house, the police are ininvestigating.

MANCHESTER CITY COUNCIL is considering changing the independent survey that reviews the demand for black cabs. The review happens every three years and has led to a waiting list of a 1000 drivers. The council has now begun a public consultation into the allocation of taxi licence plates to ensure it “meets the needs of the city and is fair to everyone”.

He hasn't lost his pension! He is 56 so it'll be the difference between retiring at 56 or 60. Rest assured, at 60 he'll be living off us all again. He took early retirement as he knew otherwise he would be fired. We're not talking about someone having a glass of wine with lunch and sneaking over the limit, he was 3 times over the limit! He had got plastered in a hotel room in London the night before having been to work meetings (so we probably paid for that too), he carried on drinking the following day with lunch and on a train on the way back to Manchester, he was stopped at 1am as he was swerving. Personally I think he's fortunate to still be a free man and we're all fortunate he didn't kill any of us!

He lost his pension because he 'lost' his job - not because he was over the limit - even though he lost his job because he was over the limit - if you follow me......

Its a bit harsh losing your pension ok he was over the limit but so are loads of other motorists and they dont lose theres , the poor guys been at work all these years give him a break and his pension back.
