Thursday 7 August: New chief constable on You Tube, attacks in Chorlton and no sale for City

Published on August 7th 2008.

GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE have uploaded part of the press conference which saw Peter Fahy being appointed as the new chief constable, onto You Tube. Authority Deputy Chief Executive Russell Bernstein said: “Websites like You Tube present lots of opportunities for local councils, police authorities and police forces.” The press conference clip can be found at www.youtube.com/GMPA1

THE FAMILY of a teenager who is seriously ill in a Greek hospital after falling off a moped whilst on holiday, are now facing a £20,000 bill to pay for her treatment and bring her home. Charlotte Robinson, 19, from Stretford, fell from the back of the vehicle last week. Her holiday insurance company say that because she was under the influence of alcohol and wearing no helmet, she isn't covered.

A WOMAN was attacked on Egerton Road in Chorlton last night. A man with a knife grabbed her from behind and snatched her handbag at 9.40pm. Another attack took place on a woman as she walked along Mauldeth Road West in Chorlton just after midnight last night. Police are still investigating whether the attacks are linked.

MANCHESTER CITY have denied that the club is to be sold due to owner Thaksin Shinawatra's frozen assets. Manager, Mark Hughes told the Guardian: "The club is not going to be sold. The owner is looking for parties to come in and invest if they are the right people, and for the right areas of the business. But there is no intention to sell the club."

With reference to Charlotte Robinson on a life support machine following her accident in Greece. I would like to ask Confidential if its readers would be prepared to make a £2 donation each in order to raise funds to get the Stretford based girl back to the UK. The £20k the insurance company are refusing to pay must be a nightmare for the girls parents to find.I am assuming she is still not back yet. Does anyone else have any thoughts as to raising funds?- I would be happy pledge the first £20?
