<B>Tuesday 12 May:</b> Oasis could delay votes, Boyle and Elbow honoured and club drug for worming dogs

OASIS COULD DELAY THE EUROPEAN ELECTION VOTES. The band are featuring in the first of three open-air concerts in Heaton Park on June 4, which is polling day. Bury Old Road and Sheepfoot Lane, will be closed at 9.30pm; half an hour before polling stations close. People living in the area are urged to apply for a postal vote.

DIRECTOR DANNY BOYLE has been made a freeman of his home town in Greater Manchester. Members of the band Elbow and Paralympian Zoe Robinson were also awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Bury Metropolitan Borough Council. Only 23 others have received the honour in the last century. Council leader Bob Bibby said: “We are really proud of all of these individuals' outstanding achievements.”

TESCO'S ROOF HAS BEEN DESTROYED in a huge fire. Fire crews were called to reports of a blaze in the roof of Tesco Metro in Stockport Road, Levenshulme on Sunday night. An investigation is now under way into the cause of the fire.

TWO MEN HAVE BEEN SPARED JAIL after trying to concoct a rave drug once used to to treat farm animals for worms. Paul Coxon, 44, and Gary Lally, 38, tried to make BZP, which is often used as a legal alternative to Ecstasy, in an office in Openshaw. Police found tubs of the chemical, a tablet press and tablets at the premises. The men, who admitted manufacturing BZP without a licence, were sentenced to four months' prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay £175 costs.
