<b>Thursday 23 April:</b> Chorlton superstore robbery, carjackers give up and salty sarnies need labels

MLD SUPERSTORE on Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy was held up by two robbers on Saturday evening. The men lashed out at staff with a knife and a baseball bat before fleeing with cash. Detective Constable Martin Saville, of West Didsbury police station, said: "They have certainly been left extremely shocked and shaken. If you know who was responsible for this heartless offence, please call us."Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 6090

A CAR DRIVER stood up to a carjacker who tried to make him give up his Mercedes Benz. The 61-year-old refused, grabbed his keys and got out of the car. His attacker and an accomplice then punched him before fleeing empty handed. The incident happened in broad daylight at traffic lights on Lissadel Street, Pendleton.

ALL SANDWICH PACKETS should feature information on salt, sugar and fat quantities according to a new campaign by Which? The consumer information service has found that sandwiches from Gregs, Pret a Manger and Subway all fail to show nutritional information on the labels. Subway's six-inch Meatball Marinara was found to contain 4.4g of salt. Health experts recommend that adults consume a maximum of 6g of salt a day.

SALFORD UNIVERSITY STAFF could face compulsory redundancies in a bid to save money for future investments including a new Salford Quays campus. A petition has been signed by hundreds of staff and students against the cuts but the university is reportedly in the process of axing 150 staff from its workforce of 2,500.
