Published on April 14th 2008.

AL BILAL curry house on Wilmslow Road has been fined £13,200 after an environmental health officer found around 20 pests in the kitchen, bar and restaurant area. Cockroaches were even found to be living in the pipework in the kitchen. The restaurant was closed in August 2007 and reopened nine days later.

TWO men have died in two seperate hit and run incidents in Manchester, both in the early hours of Saturday. John Ryan, 28, was found unconscious on Kingsway, Stretford and the other man, who is yet to be named, was knocked off his bicycle on Princess Road, Moss Side. The incidents are believed to be unrelated.

DRIVERS in Manchester have been named amongst the worst in the country for bumping another car and driving off. The city is reported to be the third least likely to stop and admit liability for denting and scratching cars and smashing wing mirrors. The survey revealed that 55% of drivers in the country failed to stop for bump-and-go offences.

MANCHESTER UNITED steamed ahead of Arsenal with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Sunday. United are now six points clear at the top of the Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson and his team are now one step closer to the title. Speaking about the match, Sir Alex said: “Arsenal were the better team in the first half. I had Anderson and Tevez come on and when Arsenal scored it forced my hand. I thought we were fantastic after that.”

Great. We went for a curry at Al Bilal last week.. wish i'd known then what I know now. or maybe I don't. the food was staggeringly unimpressive, and the most memorable part of the evening was the framed sweatshirt on the wall that read "Al-Bilal gives you wind". We thought it might be a hilarious translation of something romantic like "The red schooner sails in the breeze", but we asked the waiter and he said, "No, Al-Bilal's just the name of the bloke who ran it." Never again...
