A STREET SHOOTING HAS KILLED A BUSINESSMAN after he was shot in the stomach. Police believe the victim, who was shot in Stamford Road, Longsight on Thursday, may have also been robbed of his laptop. The 28-year-old man was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he died. The road was cordoned off and a police helicopter was used to try to locate the gunman.
GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE ARE TO LOSE 300 JOBS after overspending by £5m. The force will also order a freeze on civilian recruitment and crackdown on overtime and training to balance its books. A forecast by accountants has said GMP will overreach its £560m annual budget by around £5m at the end of the financial year. GMP will cut the 300 officers through 'natural wastage', with none being made redundant but those who quit or retire from will not be replaced.
MANCHESTER MUSICIAN Mick Hucknall has fallen out with a neighbour over fishing and shooting rights on adjoining estates in Co Donegal. John Wilde it is claimed has interfered with Hucknall estate rights and those of their guests on the Glenmore Estate at Welchtown, Ballybofey, Co Donegal.
A WOMAN WHO PLUNGED FROM BARTON BRIDGE has survived. The woman was found on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Eccles, near the Trafford Centre, after police were called just before 6am yesterday. The incident caused miles of traffic tailbacks as police cordoned off one lane. Despite surviving the fall the woman’s injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
