<B>Wednesday 28 October:</b> Camel rides this lunchtime in Spinningfields, and school goes bonkers over conkers

CAMELS WILL BE AT YOUR SERVICE in Spinningfields this lunchtime, courtesy of budget airline easyJet which is promoting its new direct flight from Manchester to Marrakech. From 11.30am-2pm, free camel rides will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. Paul Simmons, UK general manager at easyJet, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching this new route from Manchester and what better way to celebrate than with one of Morocco’s most popular tourist activities.”

A SCHOOL HAS GONE BONKERS OVER CONKERS after ordering pupils to wear safety goggles to play the game. Staff at Adlington Primary School, near Macclesfield, handed out protective glasses in case smashed conkers hit the children in the eye. Headteacher Polly Broadhurst admitted, “I suppose it does really show that health and safety has gone over the top.” Health and safety officials said there are no rules requiring children to wear goggles.

A POLICEMAN’S A-Z OF GANGS HAS BEEN FOUND in a drug dealer’s car by his colleagues. PC Philip Berry’s book contained the names of rival drug dealers, their nicknames and areas where they were dealing, Manchester Crown Court was told. Berry, 42, from Bolton, has already pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office. The case continues.

A MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED ON SUSPICION of causing death by dangerous driving after a driver was run over by a van. The incident happened at the junction of Stockport Road and Dickenson Road in Longsight yesterday. The victim, believed to be in his sixties, died in hospital.
