Thursday 29 January: Gun crime massively declines, Facebook killer guilty, Faking it in Bolton and the Doves do another broadcast

Published on January 29th 2009.

GUN CRIME IN GREATER MANCHESTER HAS FALLEN. Key facts: there hasn’t been a firearm killing in the last 12 months for the first time in a decade. The number of shots fired has fallen by 92%. This has been partly down to the success of the Police Operation Conga. This has involved officers increasing their presence, having police spotters to identify mounting tensions, better CCTV, and improved relationships with local schools and community groups. Apropos of nothing Confidential would also like to cheer everybody up with the fact that the UK has less gun-crime and gun-related deaths than any other major Western country, places such as France and Australia, as well as the US.

LEON RAMSDEN, 19, of Bolton has been found guilty of murder. Ramsden has become notorious as the ‘Facebook Killer’ after he posted a message he felt ‘like killin some1’. He stabbed and killed father-of-three Paul Gilligan, 31, in Bolton’s Pepper Alley bar in July 2008.

BOLTON LOVES A FAKER it seems. The town paid £400,000 for the so-called Armarna Princess in 2003, thinking it was a 3,300-year-old masterpiece. Turns out it was rustled up in a shed by the Greenhalgh family of forgers just a few miles from Bolton Museum. The Council wants it back from the Metropolitan Police for display at the Museum to ‘attract visitors to the museum.’

MANCHESTER BAND, Doves, are set to release a fourth album. Kingdom of Rust with 11 songs will be in the shops on 6 April. At last.

Gun crime hasn't fallen at all, less people are being caught(shots fired) and the fact that no-one has been killed in the past 12 months can also be down to the handler being a ****ty shot!

But talk to any members of the Police in the city centre and they'll tell you they're seriously concerned about the massive increase in street robbery in the last couple of months, and worry they won't be able to cope.
