A STUDENT has been stabbed by a robber who stole her bag in Manchester city centre. The 22-year-old woman felt a sharp pain in her leg as she walked along Grafton Street on Wednesday night. The attacker then demanded her bag and as she tried to remove her headphones he stabbed her again before running off towards Oxford Road.
BANGLADESHI POLICE investigating an arms haul have linked their findings to a charity in Manchester. The weapons cache was found at an Islamic school, or madrassa, allegedly run by Dr Faisal Mostafa from the Green Crescent charity in the city. Dr Mostafa, head of the charity, has previously been tried for plotting explosions in the UK. The UK's Charity Commission is investigating the allegations.
STOCKPORT IS TO LOSE its postmark as well as its sorting office. Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell was told by Royal Mail that the postmark will be replaced with a Manchester postmark, coinciding with the move to the Manchester Mail Centre. In protest, Andrew Stunell said: “Stopfordians have a strong local identity, and take pride in their heritage. This is the first small step on a slippery slope – maybe the postcode will be next?
RUGBY LEAGUE STAR, Stuart Reardon, 27, is facing a jail sentence for assaulting his wife. Reardon, a full-back for Warrington Wolves and Great Britain, attacked his estranged wife after finding out she was seeing another man. Fellow international Leon Pryce, 27, is also facing jail after admitting assaulting her new boyfriend.
