A MAN has had part of his lip bitten off as he tried to break up an argument in Orchid Lounge on Portland Street last weekend. The victim stepped in to play peacemaker between his girlfriend and another man before he was punched in the face and bitten. OFF-ROAD BIKES used on the roads are being confiscated by police as part of a crackdown across the city. Twenty mini mopeds have been seized in Longsight and Ardwick as police get tough on their use. Longsight and Ardwick Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Palmer said: “Although it is legal to own a mini motorbike, the bikes themselves can be extremely dangerous and can travel at speeds of up to forty miles an hour, so they are certainly not toys.”
DIABETES is on the increase in the North West according to new figures.The number has increase to almost 300,000 and 90 per cent of them suffer from type two diabetes, often linked to obesity and lifestyle factors. This follows from earlier news of how obesity is on the rise also from 563,000 last year to 596,000 this year.
