ITHACA’S PARENTS HAVE GONE INTO LIQUIDATION, with the new investors set to expand the celebrity-haunt to Cheshire and Dubai. Documents filed with Companies House show parent firm Ithaca Manchester Ltd has been wound-up and went into voluntary liquidation owing £1.9m. Rumours abound that talks are taking place with Premiership footballers about future ventures, with a re-launch planned for next year.

MANCHESTER’S AND SALFORD’S RUN-DOWN HOUSES TO GET A SLICE of £311m in regeneration funding. The areas are set to receive £42m to help places where house prices have collapsed and there was widespread abandonment. The Housing Market Renewal programme will also see more than 1,000 jobs and apprenticeships created in the construction industry. Housing Minister John Healey MP said, “We must continue our drive to bring existing homes and communities back up to scratch.”

AN ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE PROTESTER has been fined for swearing at a policeman at the Piccadilly Garden’s protest last October. Lee Howarth, 24, from Rochdale, was arrested at Piccadilly Station on October 10, after shouting abuse and swearing at police officers. Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard how drunken Howarth persistently swore at police despite being told to ‘calm down’. Pleading guilty to a public order offence of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, Howarth was fined £100.

RAIL PASSENGERS WILL FACE DISRUPTION on Sunday due to a lack of conductors. Northern Rail will be replace some trains with buses although the changes do not affect other train operators who run services on the same routes.
