Monday 23 November: Rio’s Rosso, Peter Kay sells out and River Irwell flood alert

Published on November 23rd 2009.

A FALLOWFIELD MAN CHARGED WITH TERROR OFFENCES along with three other people, following last week’s raids across Greater Manchester. Israr Malik, 21, has been charged with intending to commit acts of terrorism, namely violent jihad. Munir Farooqi, 52, of Longsight, Haris Farooqi, 26, of Levenshulme, and Matthew Newton, 27, of Stalybridge, have been charged with intending to assist others to commit terrorism. All four are due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in London later.

RIO’S ROSSO TAKES UP PARKING SPACES for four days to ‘film’ the launch for the new swanky restaurant. Bosses at Rosso, including Rio Ferdinand, paid out £1,500 hiring 15 parking bays in Spring Gardens, which soon filled with top-of-the-range automobiles. Town hall rules state companies can hire bays for £30 per day, but only for 'essential works', loading or filming. The Italian restaurant opened on the site of the old Establishment restaurant on Wednesday.

PETER KAY SELLS OUT IN AN HOUR as frenzied fans snapped up tickets, forcing the comedian and MEN Arena bosses to add extra nights. Originally, four nights were scheduled for his Tour That Doesn’t Tour – Tour in April next year, but Kay will now be at the arena for an unprecedented 20 night run through April and May.

FLOOD ALERT AROUND AREAS OF RIVER IRWELL as forecast shows more heavy rain is to come in the next three days. A flood watch is back in place on the river in the Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall areas.

Rosso = Sheer Vulgarity

Rosso. I was there the other night. Got put off straight away by the sight of one of the manager/owner outside of the restaurant in deep conversation on his mobile and smoking, he was not at all interested in me going in his restaurant. Anyway once inside, I was greeted by a Waiter that had to search for my name in a almost empty diary to allocated me a table in a nearly empty Restaurant. .....Oh yes, the other manager/owner was too busy having a nice conversation with a young lady I suppose she is the receptionist. Anyway the food was not bad, nothing special, but not bad. The service appalling. We did ordered two espresso macchiato and we had to explained the waiter what it was, but we never received it. We found very strange that in a restaurant that has just open, the two owners/managers don’t make any effort in welcoming their customer or even check during the meal if everything is OK. I understand that they are trying to copy another famous Italian restaurant near them but I think that with their attitude they are light years away.For myself and my partner we will not go back and waste our money again, and yes we did pay for the two espresso macchiato that we never received.Seb

M30, bit of a knee jerk that isn't it? Have you been? Are you a jaded Aristocrat wearing frayed corduroy trousers?
