<b>Thursday 11 September:</b> Beetham Tower smash causes road closures plus Mercury prize puts Elbow in the top ten

ROADS surrounding Beetham Tower have been closed due to a broken window on the 23rd floor of the building. The smashed window in the UK's tallest residential building is believed to have been accidental. Road closures are in place on Great Bridgewater Street, Watson Street and Deansgate while the area is made safe.

A CHESHIRE holiday company has gone bust leaving up to 2,500 holidaymakers stranded abroad. Seguro Holidays are based in Macclesfield and use Spanish airline Futura which has launched insolvency proceedings, citing high fuel costs. Customers already abroad will need to wait for alternative flights to be found.

MANCHESTER BAND, ELBOW are expected to go into top 10 following their Mecury Prize win for their album The Seldom Seen Kid. The album, which was at number 61 last week is now at number nine in the midweek chart prediction. It is also the best-selling album on both Amazon and iTunes in the UK.

PAUL SCHOLES says the recent World Cup qualifiers make the outcome of Saturday's lunchtime encounter at Anfield even more unpredictable. He told MUTV: “There have been four or five of us training and that does disrupt it massively - especially when we have an early kick-off on Saturday.We (the whole group) will get an hour of training probably on Friday. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. We will just have to wait and see on Saturday.”
