SEVEN MEN have been charged in connection with the murders of Tyrone Gilbert and Ucal Chin. Ucal Chin was shot dead near Dickenson Road, Longsight last June and his friend Tyrone Gilbert was killed whilst attending his wake in Longsight in July. The seven men have been charged with various drug and firearms offences and as part of the investigation into both murders and are awaiting trial.
VICTORIA BATHS in Chorlton-on-Medlock is well on the way to being restored. The scaffolding which surrounds the building is due to be taken down in the coming months as the first phase of the £3.4m restoration project nears completion. The preservation of what was one of Manchester's finest Victorian swimming pools, came about following the BBC television programme Restoration.
NAKED SWIMMING sessions have been taking place at Levenshulme baths for the last 9 months. A naturist group of gay men who hire the pool every Thursday for private naked swimming, have caused uproar amongst parents who are now refusing to let their children swim there. Manchester council wants to reassure people that the sessions pose no hygiene or privacy risk.
A BOXING SPECTATOR was knocked out when a fight erupted in the crowd following Amir Khan's victory at Bolton Arena on Saturday. A 24-year-old man was taken to Bolton Hospital with facial injuries after being punched unconscious. Crowds were throwing chairs at each other in the brawl which happened after Amir Khan beat Martin Kristjansen in the seventh round.
