<b>Friday 2 May:</b> Labour lose out, Manchester rots and Fifth Avenue say no to needle

LABOUR has lost seats across the country and 25 seats in Greater Manchester, in what was possibly its worst results in local elections for 30 years. The Conservatives took control of Bury, where they gained 3 seats from the Labour party. Labour still hold control in Manchester, Wigan, Salford and Tameside and the Lib Dems held on in Stockport and Rochdale.

MANCUNIANS suffer the worst rates of tooth decay in Britain, according to a new report. Research by the University College London has shown that residents of Manchester also suffer the highest rates of gum disease in the nation, and have restricted access to dental care with just one NHS dentist per every 2,304 of the population. The report titled, Periodontal Disease in Modern Day Britain, cites factors that are aggravating the incidence of periodontal disease in the UK.

A TEENAGER has been refused entry to Manchester nightclub Fifth Avenue because she was carrying a syringe and drugs for her life threatening condition. According to the MEN, Lucy Appleton, 18, was denied entrance because she didnt have a doctor's note to prove her illness, anaphylaxis, which can cause fits.

SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON has reportedly talked his players out of boycotting their end-of-season promotional tour to Thailand. The walk-out was due to be staged against the possible sacking of the Blues Boss by owner Thaksin Shinawatra. According to football.co.uk, Eriksson is believed to have calmed the mutiny ahead of the tour to Shinawatra's home country later this month.
