Monday 25 February: HSBC free-for-all, Wythenshawe’s posh lights and United impress the boss

Published on February 25th 2008.

STAFF at HSBC on Chorley Road, Swinton, forgot to lock the doors when they left the branch on Friday night. On Saturday morning a customer entered the empty building thinking it was open. As he started to use the cash machine, the door then slammed shut behind him and he was locked in for over an hour. HSBC have offered the man a full apology as well as compensation.

WYTHENSHAWE is to get clever traffic lights at what is one of the busiest junctions in the city. The lights have sensors which monitor and control congestion. The £18m traffic control system is to be used at junction 4 of the M56. Work will begin tomorrow and the lights are expected to be in operation from Sunday 9 March. There may be minor delays whilst the engineers are at work.

YOUNG PEOPLE in Trafford are being warned of mobile phone scams, via text. The Office of Fair Trading sent a message to thousands of 15-24-year-old mobile phone users saying: ‘Urgent! U may have won £1K cash with ‘2 Good 2 B True’.’ Trafford Council have backed the awareness campaign after figures showed that six-percent of mobile phone scams are targeted at young people.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has expressed his delight at the 5-1 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend. He told Setanta Sports: “It was a good performance. Coming to Newcastle is never easy. The match was decided by the ability of our front players, they were all absolutely fantastic.”
