PLANS FOR WHITEHALL OF NORTH in Manchester have been agreed by council bosses. Planning chiefs at the Town Hall approved the scheme, which will bring 5,000 civil servants to a new government office complex near Piccadilly Station. Surrounded by a public park, the 20-acre former Mayfield railway station site will be transformed into a ‘super campus’, with some government departments likely to move from London.
FLIGHTS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED at Manchester Airport yesterday due to snow, leading to hundreds of people being stranded at the airport. Planes were grounded and incoming flights were prevented from landing due to ice and snow on Sunday afternoon. An airport spokeswoman said many passengers had to stay in the terminals because hotels were booked up, with extra staff being used to get the flights up-and-running as quickly as possible.
A COUPLE IS IN A DECOMPRESSION UNIT after diving into a quarry in Snowdonia. The couple, from Manchester, had dived into the lake at Dorothea Quarry in the Nantlle Valley, Gwynedd, leading to both being airlifted to hospital, and one showing signs of bends.
