Friday 6 February: Home help, Channel M gets a clear picture and Manchester's economic review

Published on February 6th 2009.

A MORTGAGE RESCUE SCHEME is helping families who have fallen into debt in Manchester. Manchester City council is one of four Greater Manchester councils to potentially save homes from repossession. Households that are unable to keep up with mortgage repayments have the option to sell a share of their home to a housing association or sell the entire home to a housing association and remain in the property as tenants.

A MAN HAS HAD PART OF HIS EAR BITTEN OFF as he tried to break up a fight in Manchester's Ritz nightclub. The 22-year-old was attacked as he tried to separate the men fighting near the toilets. Both men then turned on him, throwing bottles before one of them straddled him and bit off part of his ear. Anyone with information about the attack at 3am on Sunday is asked to call police on 0161 856 3540.

CHANNEL M has been awarded a digital licence. This means the Manchester-based TV station will be able to broadcast digitially throughout Manchester on Freeview by the end of this year. At present, viewers have to subscribe to Sky or Virgin media as many can't pick up the channel via terrestrial television.

MANCHESTER CAN MATCH THE ECONOMIC STRENGTH of London according to an independent economic review of the city. The Manchester Independent Economic Review (MIER), cost £1.35m and found that the city has the potential to emerge from the recession in a strong position thanks to global interest, strong governance and the highly developed and competitive regional infrastructure.

That's exactly what Morse Inspector Chief Bergarac would say Chick - it's a fine line of enquiry.
