COUNCIL TELLS STAGE SHOW TO GET THEIR BUNS OUT after the original advertising posters were too revealing. Producers of the Calendar Girls, to be held at The Lowry, had to amend the posters four times after Manchester City Council said the original ones, including Gemma Atkinson with iced buns, were too shocking and asked for some “imaginative cropping”.

ROW ERUPTS OVER A DJ’S SUICIDE SONG after he played ‘Jump’ as police tried to talk down a woman from a motorway bridge. Shortly after the record was played, the 30-year-old woman jumped from the 30ft bridge on the M60, suffering minor injuries. Radio DJ Steve Penk has hit back at critics, saying he received a request for the song and played it to show he empathised with stuck motorists. A Samaritans’ spokesman said, “It shows a lack of compassion and understanding.”

COUPLE TO SUE AFTER ARNDALE CEILING COLLAPSED on top of them. Lyndsay Lowe, 35, suffered neck injuries, and Andrew Munro, 39, suffered cuts on his arm and a head injury when a section of the ceiling in Exchange Court fell in, due to water damage. Despite receiving a written apology from manager Glen Barkworth, the couple have employed solicitors to handle claims for their injuries.

COPS ARE ASKING RIVAL FANS TO “DO THE CITY PROUD” ahead of tomorrow’s derby match. Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins believes the occasion can be “a great day for Manchester”, as City host United in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final at Eastlands.
