TEAM GB's Manchester-based gold winners will not be abandoning the city for London's velodrome for the 2012 Games. A spokesperson has said that in practical terms there isn't the office space in the new facility and that everybody on the track programme trains on the roads. Apparently there are really good areas in and around Manchester where the riders can get the conditions they need which wouldn't be the case in London.

The company owned by the ten councils of Greater Manchester is on buy alert after the BAA was told to sell off a Scottish Airport by the Competition Commission: Glasgow looks the likely candidate. Manchester Airport Group already owns East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside airports. Trafford Centre owner's Peel Holdings which owns Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Durham Tees Valley Airport and others may be interested too. In the past they have suggested that Manchester Airport be sold to fund condgestion charging.
