JESSIE JAMES’ MUM HAS APPEALED to her son’s killers to turn himself in. Barbara Reid made the appeal on the third anniversary of Jessie’s death. He was killed in Broadfield Park in Moss Side on 9 September 2006. Miss Reid said: “Gunman, You can run but you cannot hide. You are a marked man in the eyes of God”. The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jessie’s killers has now been increased to £50,000.
AS PART OF NATIONAL 999 DAY, Greater Manchester Police has today released audio footage of non-emergency calls made to 999. One of the recordings is from a man in the bookies arguing because the staff will not pay out. The other hears a woman ringing because she does not have credit on her phone. Police are urging the public to only call 999 in a real emergency, all other calls should be made to 0161 872 5050.
RESIDENTS IN MANCHESTER are more likely to have their homes repossessed, the government suggests. A new advertising campaign urging people to seek advice when struggling with mortgage payments will target areas in the North West, where they found the number of repossessions to be higher.
SEASIDE INSTITUTION PONTIN’S WILL BE AXED in Blackpool following dwindling visitor numbers. Once a favourite with Greater Manchester families, its owners said a “substantial amount of money” was needed to update the park, but will be investing £100m into creating a “holiday village” in Southport. The site will close October 2.
