MP GRAHAM STRINGER has called for Rangers to be banned from European football next year following the behaviour of rioters in Manchester this week. Stringer, MP for Blackley said that Uefa are to look at whether Rangers will be allowed to compete next year. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said he intends to review public drinking laws as a result of the chaos in Manchester.
MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY may lower its entry requirements in order to give students from poorer families a fairer chance. Vice-chancellor Alan Gilbert told the BBC: “We aim to be an inclusive institution and need to adopt more systematic measures to enable identification and selection of the best possible students from all educational backgrounds.” The review is at an early stage and will look at a a wide range of subjects.
A SOUTH MANCHESTER road sign has left drivers in a muddle. On one side of Stratton Road in Chorlton, the speed limit is 30mph and on the other, it is 20mph. A spokesperson for Manchester City Council said: “We are aware that a mistake has been made in the mounting of the signs and it will be rectified.”
