Wednesday 25 February: Piccadilly Gardens' vests of shame, AirAsia to replace AIG and Noel Gallagher vs President Obama

Published on February 25th 2009.

CRIMINALS SERVING COMMUNITY SERVICE will have to wear orange bibs emblazoned with 'Community Payback' from now on. Up until this announcement by Justice Secretary Jack Straw, offenders had been getting away with working incognito whilst cleaning areas such as Piccadilly Gardens. But Mr Straw has said it is time 'to put punishment back at the heart of the criminal justice system,' describing the high visibility tabards as 'vests of shame.'

BREAST CANCER SCREENING is now digital at Wythenshawe Hospital. The £300,000 digital mobile unit will produce clearer images of suspicious cells and can improve cancer detection by up to 15 per cent, according to research. Currently, all women aged 47 to 50 are invited for a breast cancer screening every three years.

RUMOURS OF NEW MANCHESTER UNITED SHIRT SPONSORSHIP are rife today after the chief executive of AirAsia, Tony Fernandes, posted a picture of himself wearing an AirAsia sponsored Manchester United shirt on his blog. It's believed the entrepreneur is set to decide on whether to replace American insurance company AIG as Manchester United's main sponsor. AIG's four-year £56.5m deal expires in May 2010.

THE SHOCKWAVES NME AWARDS take place tonight at London's Brixton Academy. Oasis have received seven nominations including Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Video, Best Band Blog, Best Dressed, Worst Band and Noel Gallagher is up against President Barack Obama for Hero Of The Year. Salford's Ting Tings are up for the Best Track award and Manchester Academy is up for best venue.

I see Manchester City Council is using people doing community service rather than employing the long term unemployed from the two centres trying to find them jobs which are 200m away. Who should be wearing the vests of shame? Can we have a pic of the guilty Councillors

Ref Criminals and vests...What a one dimensional idea, I can already see the scallies outside Nobles amusements gathering to taunt the bib wearers no doubt causing more issues. Straw's ivory towered ignorance and stupidity knows no bounds.
