<b>Tuesday 3 June:</b> Hotel raid, Granada anchorman dies and Hughes for City?

THE DIDSBURY PARK HOTEL has been raided by three men in balaclavas who stole cash and a car. The men threatened the night porter with a pistol before driving off in a silver Mercedes with cash at around 1am on Saturday. Anyone with any information can contact police on 0161 856 6153.

MATERNITY UNITS are struggling to cope with the numbers of expectant mothers, according to reports. St. Mary's hospital in Manchester city centre is one of the worst affected unit and is often forced to close its doors. A spokesperson for St Mary's has said that £900,000 is to be spent on extra rooms and staff.

GRANADA NEWS ANCHORMAN and producer Mike Scott has died at the age of 75. Scott was best known for being the first to break the news that President John F Kennedy had been shot in 1963 to the North West, half an hour before the news reached the rest of the country. Granada got a tip off from the CBS network in New York. Scott had been in a care home for the last 10 years.

BLACKBURN ROVERS have confirmed that they have been approached by Manchester City for permission to talk to Mark Hughes with regard to him becoming their manager. Hughes has taken up the opportunity to talk to Manchester City. In a statement, Blackburn Rovers said: 'The Board have decided reluctantly to give permission subject to terms and conditions acceptable to Blackburn Rovers being agreed with Manchester City in advance.'
