<b>Tuesday 20 May:</b> Co-op are here to stay, gun pub shut down and 'Big Brother' is watching you

THE CO-OPERATIVE GROUP is to stay in Manchester city centre. The group has announced that it will not be moving to a new headquarters outside the city. The decision has been welcomed by Manchester City Council, who have promised to invest £20m in transforming the area around the company's headquarters in the north of the city.

CARS traveling into Manchester are being monitored by automatic number plate recognition surveillance cameras. 600,000 motorists' journeys are being stored for five years to help combat terrorism, crime and car theft. Civil rights campaigners have complained it will turn us into a surveillance society. The cameras are on 12 major routes into the city.

A PUB has been closed down following two shootings in three months. The Dog and Partridge in Salford has been temporarily closed down by police who are now trying to keep it shut permanently. A 43-year-old man was shot in both legs last week and a 26-year-old man was shot in the leg outside the pub at Easter. A 50-year-old customer was also shot after being in the line of fire of a second shot.

MANCHESTER UNITED chief executive, David Gill has spoken out about Cristiano Ronaldo following rumours that he may move to La Liga. He told BBC Five Live: “Manchester United is not a club that sells its main assets. We want a successful team on the pitch and you don’t achieve that by selling Cristiano Ronaldo. He is going nowhere.”
