Wednesday 5 March: Old Trafford tout, Oxford Road to be pedestrianised and United through to the next stage

Published on March 5th 2008.

AN ARREST has been made over alleged ticket touting at Manchester United's Old Trafford ground during their Champions League game against Lyon last night. A 32-year-old man from Blackburn is being held on suspicion of fraud, ticket touting and money laundering. Confidential spoke to a Mancunian former ticket tout about the rise of the secondary sales market back in February. Click here to read the story.

A 70-YEAR-OLD PENSIONER has been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Manchester city centre. Craig Douglas was stabbed in the neck on Canal Street last week and later died in hospital. David Broady from Victoria Square, Manchester, has been charged with the murder. He is due to appear before magistrates in Manchester on Wednesday morning.

OXFORD ROAD could become a green gateway to the city. Transport chiefs have come up with the proposal where-by half a mile of Oxford Road will be pedestrianised with special lanes for new eco buses and lined with trees. The plans rely on the introduction of congestion charging and if they get the go-ahead, could become reality in five years.

MANCHESTER UNITED are now through to the Champions League quarter finals thanks to a 1-0 victory over Lyon at Old Trafford last night. Speaking about the match, Sir Alex Ferguson told ITV Sport: “We made it difficult for ourselves, but we're into the next round and that was, of course, the object of the exercise. I don't think Lyon really had any chances in the game.”
