AN ANNOUNCEMENT that Manchester’s supercasino plans are to be scrapped has been delayed until Tuesday. It is hoped that the hold-up will allow time for the government to consider other replacement ideas. If no further plans are suggested, town hall chiefs will prepare to launch a judicial review of the decision.
PARKING FINES could soon be issued via CCTV footage in parts of Greater Manchester. The council is considering using this method as another way of catching offenders. Town hall staff would operate the CCTV cameras and issue tickets for carparks, yellow lines and parking meters. Fines would then be sent out in the post.
MANCHESTER is the best place to set up business outside of London according to office space provider Stonemartin. Julie Pickford, general manager at one of Stomemartin's Manchester office properties, told englandsnorthwest.com: “We are seeing a lot of companies setting up new offices in the building and I think it reflects the wider trend of investment in Manchester.” The city is expected to attract the largest number of companies between now and 2012 outside London.
BOLTON WANDERERS are to make an official complaint over the treatment of fans by Spanish police following the 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid. Greater Manchester Police is in discussions with the club and Consulate, and will be assisting in completing a report in order to present all the facts to UEFA. Chairman of Bolton Wanderers, Phil Gartside said: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club will be pursuing the matter at the highest level.”
