Thursday 30 October: New York gathers inspiration from Levenshulme, Wythenshawe residents fight back and Katona sacks Clifford

Published on October 30th 2008.

THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY could be remodeled on Levenshulme Library. Stockport-born architect, Lord Norman Foster has been commissioned to undertake a £150m redesign of New York's public library and is drawing inspiration from pictures of Levenshulme Library on Cromwell Grove. Lord Norman, 73, designed London's 'Gherkin', the new Wembley stadium, the Berlin Reichstag and New York's Museum of Modern Art. He lived in Levenshulme as a child and says he is indebted to his local library, which spurred him on to go to Manchester University and study architecture.

A MAN has undergone a life-saving lung transplant at the University Hospital of South Manchester. The 55-year-old was saved using lungs from a donor which were made to breathe outside the body. Previously, lungs could only be tested for suitability for transplant while they were still inside living donors in intensive care, but this successful procedure has meant more lungs could become available.

WYTHENSHAWE RESIDENTS are trying to build community pride after the area was wrongly dubbed Europe's biggest council estate. The £30,000 Real Lives Wythenshawe advertising campaign features facts and first person accounts from the area. The campaign is aimed at their affluent neighbours in areas such as Didsbury and Hale.

TROUBLED FORMER POP STAR Kerry Katona has sacked her publicist, Max Clifford. The news comes after Katona, 28, from Warrington made a train wreck TV appearance on ITV1's This Morning last week. Clifford gave Katona away at her wedding last year and she then named her son, Max, after him.

She is still on payrolls as it causes am imterest in a product which all of the above are proving. If it wasn't for her, would you even consider discussing the merits of an Iceland advert. To be honest though, I agree. Just shows what a piss poor state the nation is in if people like this continually get paid huge sums of money to endorse a product while people with genuinely honest jobs (nurses, soldiers etc) are left picking up paltry salaries for work which goes some way to making this country a better and safer place. Will now get down off my soapbox.

No you're right...the nation should do a mass boycott of everything that Kerry is involved with. So from now on, no one is allowed to go to Iceland or buy OK Magazine!!!

Kerry is such a waste of space. Let's stick her back in Jungle with her waste of space husband. Only this time without the camera's or audience and lets leave her to rot.
