SIXTEEN women and girls have been sexually assaulted in the Tib Street area of the Northern Quarter in Manchester city centre over the last few months. The incidents are reported to have happened to victims, aged 13 to 43, mainly between 7am and 8am. Detective Sergeant Kay Dennison from North Manchester CID said: “I would appeal to women that use Tib Street and the adjoining streets to remain vigilant.”
BREAST CANCER SCREENING will no longer be carried out at Trafford General Hospital. The service has been moved because of incorrect mammograms in 2005 which led to 28 misdiagnoses’. Radiologist Amjad Husien is under investigation by the General Medical Council and screenings are now being carried out at Wythenshawe Hospital.
A MAN who told police an elaborate lie which included him assaulting himself, has been sentenced to one month in prison. Mark Stoddart from Bolton beat himself up to try and convince police he had been assaulted and robbed when in fact he himself had stolen his employer's van, crashed it and fled the scene. He struck himself in the face three times to cause the injury to his cheekbone.
THE UCI TRACK CYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS start in Manchester today. The newly laid track surface at the Manchester Velodrome is expected to produce some fast times. Team GB will battle it out for both the world and Olympic titles. The events run until Sunday 30 March and are crucial for Britain’s Olympic qualification.
