Wednesday 30 July: Fluoride in the water, dead sheep on the Moors and Beach Club gets scrapped

Published on July 30th 2008.

FLUORIDE could be added to water in Greater Manchester if residents agree to it. Health chiefs are currently deciding whether to propose the idea to the public. Research has identified that Greater Manchester has some of the worst dental health in the country. Birmingham has fluoridated water and significantly lower dental health problems. The scheme would reportedly cost up to £100m.

REMAINS that were found on Saddleworth Moor, between West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester were in fact sheep body parts. Police have confirmed that the although it was thought initially that they were human, forensic examination has revealed that they are that of a sheep and the scene has now been closed.

THE BEACH CLUB MANCHESTER, a man-made beach in the city centre, will no longer be built due to bad weather. 80 tonnes of sand were ordered from the Bahamas. Bosses at Sankey's nightclub had planned to build the beach in Spinningfields last year but have since run into various problems. The Beach Club will now be postponed until next year.

MANCHESTER CITY have offered player Michael Johnson a five-year contract in a bid to secure his future at Eastlands. Reports say that Liverpool have also taken an interest in the 20-year-old. City manager Mark Hughes said: “He is an outstanding young player with a great future ahead of him and we want that future to be at City, so we are working to that end. I am sure he will be an England regular.”

Interesting fact if you didn't know already: Fluoride is an ingredient in Prozac as well as most tranquillizers. Why? Because continued exposure to fluoride makes you passive. Handy for the council aint it. It also increases your chances of cancer and fluoridation of water is estimated to cause 20,000 plus cancer deaths per year in the United States.
