MANCHESTER CITY’s woes continue. Despite being the richest club in the world they can’t help making the headlines for the wrong reasons. Yesterday Brazilian star Robinho was arrested and questioned over allegations of a serious sexual assault in a Leeds’ nightclub earlier in the month. Robinho's spokesman Chris Nathaniel said: “He strenuously denies any allegation of wrongdoing or criminality and is happy to co-operate with the police if further required.” The alleged assault took place on 14 January
TAMESIDE is learning from the past. In previous recessions or depressions local authorities have engaged in building programmes to provide employment. Tameside wants to pump £12m into the local economy to support businesses and traders and help the local economy. Ideas include refurbishment work at the borough's eight cemeteries, school repairs and buildings' maintenance.
THE BATTLE OF SALE MOOR has resulted in a couple being ruined. After losing a court hearing over a boundary dispute, Mary Kendrick and John Edwards, took the case to the High Court. Lord Justice Dyson said that whilst he had sympathy for their case, the original decision against them had been good and there was no further right of appeal. The couple now face crippling legal costs.
FOR ONCE, SOME POSITIVE BUSINESS NEWS. PZ Cussons, the Stockport-based soap maker, has reported a 13.5% rise in half-year profits. The company is due to open a new £26m research and development centre at Agecroft in Greater Manchester. It seems that people aren’t cutting back on keeping clean at least.
