SWARMS of Rangers fans have arrived in Manchester today for the Uefa Cup Final against Zenit St Petersburg. More fans are expected to congregate in the city today, boosting the economy by a reported £20m. Every hotel room in and 20 miles around Manchester is fully booked up, although many of the fans are expected to camp or sleep in their cars.
THE CRESCENTS estate on Stretford Road, Hulme is to become a £90m student campus. The once socially problematic council estate will be replaced with a 6000 student facility for Manchester Metroplitan University's trainee teachers and health students. If approved, it will take five years to build.
A MAJOR FIRE has devastated an industrial estate in Greater Manchester. A large amount of plastic waste caught on fire at the Bradley Fold Industrial Estate on the Bolton/Bury border this morning. It has also been reported that the fire spread to 10 cars on a nearby car park. More than 30 firefighters were called out to bring the blaze under control.
JOSE MOURINHO has turned down a move to Manchester City because the club just isn't big enough for him. He told Portuguese newspaper A Bola: “As I'm not prepared to take a step back and become a mid-level coach, I'll work for a big club or I won't work. Full stop. That's why in these past few months I've turned down - I don't know - 8, 9 or 10 clubs, because I wasn't prepared to take a step backwards."
