FOLLOWING HIS APPEARANCE IN MANCHESTER, BNP leader Nick Griffin has been pelted with eggs and forced to abandon a press conference outside Parliament. Griffin later told the BBC that the three main political parties were trying to prevent the BNP getting its message across by colluding with protesters.

DID YOU PAY FOR A CAB after the Oasis gig on Saturday? Taxi drivers are being accused of cashing in on the post-concert chaos. One concert-goer told the MEN newspaper that they paid £70 to travel a distance of 14 miles from Heaton Park to Sale. Many also complained that the park and ride system wasn't efficient, with too few shuttle buses available.

TONY WILSON'S SON, Oliver Wilson, has helped set up a music school to help nurture new talent in the city. The School of Sound Recording's Tony Wilson Scholarship scheme will offer a £12,000 bursary to provide financial support to talented youngsters in the region. Oliver said: “I am very excited that SSR is giving a scholarship in my father's name because it is something he would have believed in.”

Coun Peter Burns said this would create a new type of noise disturbance for residents. The original runway was last resurfaced 13 years ago and now needs a full refurbishment.
