<b>Wednesday 5 August:</b> Property firm goes bust, waterworks ahead of schedule and MGS head was MI6 spy

FIVE HUNDRED INVESTORS are set to lose their deposits of up to £20,000 which were put down on unfinished apartments. The buy-to-let firm Dylan Harvey Residential collected about £6.5m in deposits, but the sales agent, part of the Dylan Harvey Group, has gone into administration, owing up to £100m. Developments affected include Zararchie Tower and Bengal Mill in Ancoats and Clippers Quay in Salford Quays.

WATER ENGINEERS IN MANCHESTER city centre have discovered a unique Edwardian square pipe. The 1907 cast-iron pipe, found on Oxford Road, is said to have been “machined specially for this location”. But for those of you who just want to know when the work finally ends, it is two weeks ahead of schedule and due for completion on 16 August.

A DRIVER left a trail of destruction after ploughing into at least 15 parked cars in north Manchester. The Mitsubishi Shogun driver only stopped once he crashed into railings outside the Broadway pub in Nuthurst Road, Moston. Greater Manchester Police said the male driver was taken away by ambulance but the extent of his injuries is not yet known. No-one else was hurt.

IT HAS BEEN REVEALED the former head of Manchester Grammar School had a secret past as a spy. Following his death last week aged 95, Peter Mason’s time with the MI6 in hunting Nazi 'sleepers' during the liberation of France was revealed. Despite winning an MBE in 1946 for his role in the war, Mr Mason never spoke of his wartime activities.
